567 Glastonbury & Street to Castle Cary Rail Link Bus

The 567 is a new trial bus linking Street, Glastonbury, and Butleigh with Castle Cary Railway Station alongside the existing 667. Connections in Keinton Mandeville between the Somerton Slinky and the 567/667 are also possible to enable people in the Somerton area to use the service. The bus runs 7 days a week and late weekday evenings making connections with the last train to and from London possible. The timetable has been specifically designed to connect with trains to/from London all-day as well as some other trains including Gloucester, Exeter, Salisbury, Frome, and Plymouth services. It is operated by Somerset Council’s own fleet and fares are capped at £3 for a single.

The Route

The 567 runs from Glastonbury to Castle Cary town centre passing through Street, Butleigh, Kingweston, Keinton Mandeville, Lydford-on-Fosse and Castle Cary station. 567 services take the fastest route from Butleigh to Castle Cary station which passes through Keinton Mandeville as well as other villages. 667 services take a longer route via Baltonsborough and Barton St David as they did previously.

​Direct Journeys From Somerton​

There are also direct peak journeys from Somerton and Langport to Castle Cary station which need to be pre-booked via Somerton Slinky. These run at the following times:

• Leaves Langport at 06:30 and Somerton at 06:45 arriving at Castle Cary train station at 07:15

• Departs Castle Cary at 18:25 arriving in Langport at 19:10 and Somerton at 19:25

​During the rest of the day, passengers can change between the Somerton Slinky and the 567 in Keinton Mandeville.

A trial bus numbered 567 will start operating for around 6 months running 7 days a week including late evenings. This will be a fantastic and long wanted link between Glastonbury & Street and Castle Cary Railway Station. However, if not enough people use the new service, there’s a big risk that at the end of 2026 the trial could be deemed a failure and the service withdrawn. Therefore, the bus needs as much promoting as possible to ensure patronage meets the required level for the service to continue!
